Hello! My name is Olivia Moran and I am the new Sustainability Marketing Coordinator and Local Foods Crew Supervisor.
I earned my degree in Sustainable Agriculture with minors in Nutrition and Spanish from Appalachian State University. I grew up in Hillsborough, North Carolina- so I am a true North Carolinian! Additionally, I have a background both in gardening and working in restaurants, so local food is very important to me!
I was thrilled to start at Warren Wilson College because sustainability is a top priority of students on campus. As a crew, we promote local food and sustainability on campus through hosting campus events and creating sustainability marketing materials for the dining hall. Additionally, we track dining hall spending to find out the percent the dining hall is spending on local food (food sourced within a 250 mile radius). After we track spending, we research ways to source more food from local producers. We proudly serve food from both the campus garden, forest and farm at our dining locations.
This blog will discuss sustainability initiative on campus, local food dining events and sustainability topics of interest!
